Amsterdam is famous all over the world for its shopping plazas and for its other tourist attractions like museums etc. However, this is not the end of it all. There are many more sights to see in this beautiful city. Tourists should take out some time off on a sunny afternoon and stroll through the greenery provided by the Vondelpark.

Covering a huge area of 120 acres, this urban park of Amsterdam lies in the stadsdeel Amsterdam Oud-Zuid. Few tourists are aware of the fact that this park, which was inaugurated in the year 1865, was originally named as the Nieuwe Park. It was later on renamed to reflect the name of the famous seventeenth century author, JVD Vondel. The sheer beauty of this park attracts 10 million visitors on an annual basis.

When you are tired of walking in the park, spare some time to check out its other recreational facilities. Hunt around a bit and you will also find an open air theater over there where one can view shows from June till August. It also boasts of a film museum that never ceases to amaze visitors. It provides you with the best opportunity to view silent films from the nineteenth century.

Kids will love the playground of the Vondelpark that also has a couple of statues like that of the person after whom the park is named.
