St. Nicholas Church
Take a late night stroll on the Oudezids Voorburgwal, also known as the OZ Voorburgwal. However, we are not telling you to check out the famous red light district of Central Amsterdam. Just go close to the seafront in this district and check out the shimmering reflection of the famous St. Nicholas Church in the water.
It is such a beautiful sight that you will feel like visiting it repeatedly. This is also the best location from where visitors can have an unobstructed view of the dome of this Roman Catholic church that lies in the center of Amsterdam.
Designed by the renowned architect and painter A.C. Blejis, famous for designing a number of Catholic churches, the St. Nicholas Church boasts of numerous revival styles, some of the most prominent models amongst them being the neo-Renaissance and the Neo-Baroque.
Twin towers with a rose between them adorn the façade. Look carefully to view the bas-relief on the window that depicts Christ and the four evangelists. A sculpture of the patron saint of the city and also of the church, sculpted by Bart von Hove, adorns a niche in the upper section of the gable top.
Do not miss out viewing the nineteenth century Sauer organ that lies within the church.
