Rembrandt House Museum

You need not be an artist to be familiar with the name Harmenszoon van Rijn Rembrandt. He was arguably one of the top-notch printmakers and painters in the hallowed history of European art. Visiting Amsterdam and not visiting the house where this great printer lived would be a tour left incomplete. The famous printer resided in this house, constructed in 1606, between the years 1639 and 1658.

This building now houses a museum that exhibits 250 of the 300 etchings created by this genius. Be prepared to spend a good part of a day to browse through the etchings and realize what made Rembrandt so famous.

Visitors will be surprised to learn that this painter, whose works are renowned the world over and are considered priceless, had to leave this house because of shortage of money. Apart from the paintings by the prodigy himself, this building exhibits paintings by his pupils, his contemporaries, and by his teacher too.

Do not miss the copper plate etchings of Rembrandt, four of which can be found displayed over here. Currently, the building presents different types of exhibitions, all of which are linked directly, or indirectly, with different aspects of the painter’s life and his work.
