Koninklijk Paleis

The Koninklijk Paleis or the Royal Palace was built in the 17^th century. In the beginning, this building was known as the new city hall of Amsterdam. Later, after the Munster peace treaty in the year 1648, authorities started implementing their ambitious plan for the new city hall.

The council of this city selected the design of Jacob van Campen for this impressive and large building. The wealth and power of Amsterdam city was reflected from the structure of this building and its interior design. These ideals were later portrayed in paintings by Ferdinand Bol and Govert Flinck and in sculpture by Artus Quelllien.

Amsterdam has a place of respect for this particular structure, as it has its significance in the 17^th Century. When King Louis Napoleon reached Amsterdam in the year 1808, the new city hall was turned into a Royal Palace. During that period, varieties of empire style furniture, clocks and chandeliers were brought in this palace.
